Wanda Montgomery of Springmore Elementary was named the 2019 Bus Driver of the Year.  With over 16 years of driving experience, she earned top honors as the county’s top driver.

Initially, Montgomery was recognized as a bus driver of the month last school year and then returned to the bus garage last spring to undergo another road test, a driver knowledge exam, and a panel interview with transportation experts.

“The selection process is quite rigorous,” explained David Pless, director of transportation for Cleveland County Schools. “Wanda Montgomery performs at a high level every day.  I could not think of anyone more deserving of this honor.”

This annual award is named after Donald K. Byrnes, a retired CCS school transportation director, and current bus driver advocate.

This year’s two runners-up were Shelby Hopper of Marion Elementary and Lynda Drake of North Shelby.
