A Celebration of Academic Excellence

The 15th Annual Senior Scholars Banquet was held recently at The LeGrand Center to celebrate and reward the academic successes of the county’s top scholars. Nearly 200 seniors were honored as A. Mickey Church Scholarship recipients as they achieved at least a 4.0 GPA (Grade Point Average) and placed in the top twenty percent of their cohort at their respective schools.

Each scholar was granted $500 for post-secondary tuition purposes and received a certificate of recognition for their dedication to academic excellence.  With the awarding of nearly $100,000, every scholar was recognized individually by the Cleveland County Schools Educational Foundation among over 800 in attendance.

“It is a true honor and great privilege to experience such a rewarding event among so many talented students,” said Greg Shull, director of communications for Cleveland County Schools.  “These scholars have conquered a rigorous educational journey, and we are most proud to celebrate their academic excellence.”

Parents, donors, presenters, and educators gathered to formally honor and congratulate the best of the best for a job well done.

Scholarship money presented was generated by the Turner Trucking Co. Academic Awards Golf Tournament sponsored by the Foundation last October at the River Bend YMCA Golf Club, The Paul & Margaret Porter Foundation, as well as countless businesses, families, and individuals throughout the community.
